Re-introduced in 2010, the Dyna Wide Glide motorcycle is all about attitude. Its tough, dark styling and retro feel, along with a retro price tag, give riders the confidence to sit low and stretch out. The Wide Glide is raw and true to its roots with a chopped rear fender, black rims on 40-spoke laced wheels, a black tank console, “Tommy Gun” exhaust, beefy, raked-out forks and a swept back sissy bar. Throw in the old-school flame paint scheme and heads are sure to turn. The lowered suspension, internally-wired handlebar with 4-inch riser and forward foot controls offer an awesome ride and the sticker price provides amazing value.

In 1910 the famed “Bar & Shield” logo is used for the first time. It is trademarked at the U.S. Patent office one year later.

At least seven different first place finishes are captured at races, endurance contests and hillclimbs across America. All seven winners are riding Harley-Davidson® motorcycles.

1911 Harley-Davidson Model 7A – The Art of the Motorcycle – Memphis. 30.17 cu-in. Power: 4 bhp, top speed 40 mph. Collection of Tom Bumpus, Bumpus Harley-Davidson of Memphis.

In 1911, an improved V-Twin model was introduced. The new engine had mechanically operated intake valves, as opposed to the “automatic” intake valves used on earlier V-Twins that opened by engine vacuum. With a displacement of 49.48 cubic inches (810.8 cc), the 1911 V-Twin was smaller than earlier twins, but gave better performance. After 1913 the majority of bikes produced by Harley-Davidson would be V-Twin models.

The “F-head” engine becomes a workhorse of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle until 1929.

Two years after the first Harley-Davidson had chugged its way along the streets of Milwaukee, the 1905 Harley-Davidson made its appearance.

Power from the 24.74-cubic-inch motor was enough to propel the machine to a reported 25 mph or so. By that time, their numbers had also increased dramatically: Eight of the shiny black machines had been built during 1904, with another sixteen hitting the streets in 1905.

The tall lever along the left side of the fuel tank adjusted tension on the leather drive belt. Since modern control cables had not yet been invented, intricate jointed shafts were used for throttle and other controls.

The motor still used a vacuum-operated overhead intake valve and mechanically actuated side exhaust valve. A battery supplied juice to the ignition, but there was no on-board method for recharging it. To start the motor, riders would pedal the motorcycle up to speed — not an easy task, as they were not only propelling a heavy bike, but also turning over the motor.

The first Harley Davidson Motor Company factory was built in 1906 on Chestnut Street. It was a modest 40 by 60 foot single story wooden structure. Chestnut Street was later renamed Juneau Avenue, and though the original structure was replaced, this location remains the Motor Company’s corporate headquarters to this day. A total of 50 motorcycles were produced in 1906.

Sporting the perfect blend of modern performance and nostalgic style, Harley-Davidson rolls out a stunning motorcycle with the 2008 FXSTSSE2 Screamin’ Eagle Softail Springer. As a showcase of color and chrome, the Screamin’ Eagle Softail Springer will excite riders and thrill onlookers everywhere. This second edition creation from Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) takes a timeless Harley-Davidson motorcycle to powerful and pleasurable extremes with a Twin Cam 110B engine, abundant chrome and dazzling colors, including the serialized 105th Anniversary combination with gold leaf graphics.

Harley-Davidson CVO brings a bold, muscular look to the classic front end of the Screamin’ Eagle Softail Springer for 2008. With a new 18 x 3.5-inch chrome Revolver front wheel and a 130 mm, 18-inch front tire added to color-matched rigid forks and chromed spring components, the Screamin’ Eagle Softail Springer boasts a wider front fender with a restyled mounting bracket and strut that give the bike an aggressive, daring stance. The front brake assembly moves to the left side of the wheel for a clean look, while the front brake lever has a reduced reach for optimal ergonomics. The high flow, forward facing exposed Heavy Breather intake displays a special “110″ end cap. Other new components include a chrome horn cover, color-matched frame inserts and chrome rear axle nut covers, along with braided cables and lines.

The Harley-Davidson CVO group creates limited-production, exclusive motorcycles produced by a team of highly skilled technicians in a special assembly area at the Harley-Davidson plants in York, Pa., and Kansas City. Approximately 2,500 of the 2008 Screamin’ Eagle Softail Springer will be assembled at the York Vehicle Operations facility. The serialized 105th Anniversary package will be limited to a maximum production of 1,050. The suggested U.S. retail price for the 2008 Screamin’ Eagle Softail Springer is $24,995 (25,095 in California). The 105th Anniversary package adds $495.

Also new to the Screamin’ Eagle Softail Springer is the exclusive Granite and Chrome treatment on the largest-displacement production engine offered by Harley-Davidson. The 110-cid (1800cc) Twin Cam 110B, a high-performance V-Twin engine, delivers even more exhilaration than last year. Thanks to the free flowing Heavy Breather intake, torque increases five percent to an impressive 110 ft. lbs. at 3000 rpm. The engine is rigid-mounted in the Softail frame and equipped with internal counter-balanced shafts that eliminate 90 percent of primary engine vibration. Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) is standard on the Twin Cam 110B. The chrome shotgun exhaust exits through slash-down mufflers. The engine is mated to a 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission for lower cruising rpm in top gear.

The Screamin’ Eagle Softail Springer will also carry items new to the Softail line for 2008 such as a floating rear brake caliper, bolt-on frame tails and fender support covers, and a new fuel pump, line and sender. The Centerline accessory collection remains this year with grips, pegs and brake and shifter pedals and an added Centerline horn cover. The handlebar is secured with smooth clamps and tucked in-between is a spun aluminum mini-tachometer with a contoured bezel. Additional color-matched components include the frame, swingarm, rigid fork, oil tank, headlight bucket, muffler support bar, seat post and top triple clamp.

With a molded-ribbed chrome console running from the handlebar to the two-up leather seat, the Screamin’ Eagle Softail Springer rides over a wide Bobtail fender with a Tri-Bar LED tail lamp. The 200 mm rear tire on a 17-inch Revolver Chrome, 10-spoke Forged Aluminum wheel caps off the back end with a substantial custom feel. Front and rear brake calipers match the Granite engine treatment.

The Screamin’ Eagle Softail Springer will be offered in three exclusive color combinations with two new graphic schemes: The scalloped flame metal grind scheme will feature Inferno Orange with Fireburst Flames and Black Diamond with Smoked Candy Flames. The 105th Anniversary scheme of Crystal Copper and Black Onyx will include gold leafing graphics and a serialized 105th Anniversary cloisonné. Frame and swingarm are color-matched with each paint pattern. A Harley-Davidson Smart Security System with Smart Siren, an indoor storage cover with CVO logo, and a commemorative CVO key in a presentation box are also included.

As good as a street machine gets, the 2008 FXDSE2 Screamin’ Eagle Dyna boasts potent performance and straightforward style from Harley-Davidson Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO). The Screamin’ Eagle Dyna commands respect on the street with its unique Granite finished Twin Cam 110 engine and high level of hot rod styling.

The Screamin’ Eagle Dyna is based on the versatile and spirited Harley-Davidson FXD Dyna Super Glide platform. For 2008, the Screamin’ Eagle Dyna boasts the Twin Cam 110, the largest-displacement production engine offered by Harley-Davidson. This 110-cid (1800cc) high-performance V-Twin engine produces 105 ft. lbs. of torque at 3000 rpm. A low-restriction air cleaner feeds standard Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), and exhaust flows through chrome staggered shorty dual exhaust and straight-cut mufflers with full-length covers. The 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission offers lower cruising rpm in top gear. The powertrain is finished in a new CVO-exclusive Granite coat with chrome covers.

Going even farther with a wicked combination of street style and performance, the Screamin’ Eagle Dyna features new Mirror Chrome, Slotted Six-Spoke Cast Aluminum wheels. The 21-inch front wheel is covered by a swept-back custom fender and is held by 43 mm lowered inverted forks with chrome tubes and triple clamps, and has a matching brake rotor. The 17-inch rear wheel holds a 170 mm tire. A new lowered front suspension with decreased fork angle sets the stage for a smooth ride and razor sharp cornering.

The Harley-Davidson CVO program creates limited-production, exclusive motorcycles produced by teams of technicians in a special assembly area at the Harley-Davidson plants in York, Pa., and Kansas City. Approximately 2,600 examples of the 2008 Screamin’ Eagle Dyna with a maximum of 1,050 serialized 105th Anniversary Edition vehicles will be assembled at the Kansas City Vehicle and Powertrain Operations facility. The suggested U.S. retail price for the 2008 Screamin’ Eagle Dyna is $24,995 ($25,095 in California and an additional $495 for the serialized 105th Anniversary Edition).

Versatility and individuality are encouraged with the new custom adjustable handlebar, which is internally wired and integrated with a new four-inch spun aluminum tachometer. Grips are from the Stealth collection and match the Stealth foot pegs, brake pedal and shift peg.

A new chrome full-length fuel tank console now includes the speedometer and easily accessible ignition switch and lock. The fuel tank is finished with a flush mount gas cap and chrome fuel gauge with hidden LED indicators. The console rises over a new reduced reach custom seat with perforated leather inserts providing an ergonomically comfortable ride. Profile mirrors with new shortened, solid stems add a final touch of flair to the front end.

The Screamin’ Eagle Dyna will be offered in three exclusive color combinations with two unique graphic schemes: 105th Anniversary scheme with Crystal Copper with Black Onyx, and Flames and Marbled Graphics with Scarlett Red Pearl with Dark Crimson or Candy Cobalt with Midnight Blue. The battery box, coil cover and electrical panel are matched with each paint pattern, while the chin spoiler, frame and swing arm are all color matched. A Harley-Davidson Smart Security System with Smart Siren, an indoor storage cover with CVO logo, and a commemorative CVO key in a presentation box are also included.

The Screamin’ Eagle Road King is born into royalty as a Harley-Davidson FLHR Road King, which now includes a six-gallon fuel tank and cruise control, primed for long-distance riding. In addition, the Screamin’ Eagle Road King has the new Harley-Davidson Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) as a standard feature. ABS is designed to help you maintain control during emergency stopping situations, especially those that happen in less than ideal conditions, while the new Isolated Drive System enhances accelerating, cruising and shifting.

The Harley-Davidson CVO program creates limited-production, exclusive motorcycles produced by teams of technicians in special assembly areas at the Harley-Davidson plants in York, Pa., and Kansas City. Approximately 3,150 examples of the 2008 Screamin’ Eagle Road King including 1,800 serialized 105th Anniversary models, will be assembled at the York Vehicle Operations facility. The suggested U.S. retail price for the 2008 Screamin’ Eagle Road King is $29,290 ($29,390 in California). The 105th Anniversary package adds $495.

The Screamin’ Eagle Road King has the largest-displacement Harley-Davidson production engine, the 110-cubic inch (1800cc) Twin Cam 110, a high-performance V-Twin engine delivering 115 ft. lbs. of torque at 3000 rpm. For 2008, the Twin Cam 110 displays a new Granite finish. Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) is standard, along with a custom oil cooler with chrome cover, and chrome cross-over dual exhaust with four-inch touring mufflers and chrome billet end caps. The engine is joined to the 6-speed Cruise Drive transmission for lower cruising rpm in top gear.

Among the enhancements to the Screamin’ Eagle Road King are a new electronic throttle control technology for adjustment-free riding, revised mirrors and a new riser cover with indicator lights. The new six-gallon Touring fuel tank, which provides outstanding fuel range, is combined with a new console, gasket and granite colored emblem with hammered finish. The custom leather seat, backrests and saddlebags receive a new design, while new trim chrome strips flow with the bike on the side covers.

The chrome-and-rubber Ironside accessories collection includes hand grips, rider footboards, passenger pegs, Mustache engine guard pads, shift pegs and brake pedal pad. A tail lamp in the classic “tombstone” shape remains exclusive to the Screamin’ Eagle Road King. Chrome, Road Winder Forged Aluminum wheels carry 130 mm front and 170mm rear, radial tires. Touring features include electronic cruise control, Mustache Engine Guard with rubber boot pads, an accessory power outlet, and a quick-detachable smoked windscreen.

The Screamin’ Eagle Road King will be offered in three exclusive color combinations: 105th Anniversary Crystal Copper and Black Onyx (serialized models); Twilight Blue and Candy Cobalt with Ghost Flame graphics; and Black Diamond and Silver Dust with Ghost Flame graphics. Frame and swingarm colors are matched with each paint scheme. The Harley-Davidson Smart Security System with Smart Siren, an indoor storage cover with CVO logo, and a commemorative CVO key in a presentation box are also included.

The VRSCDX Night Rod Special is even darker and nastier than the Night Rod. Features include drag bars and forward controls, an all-black 125-hp Revolution V-Twin engine and more blacked-out components, including the fork legs and a wide swing arm supporting a beefy 240 mm rear tire. Brushed Straight-shot Dual mufflers have black end caps and heat shields. A contrasting racing stripe paint scheme traces the length of the bike. The 25.2-inch seat height makes Night Rod Special the lowest VRSC model.

NEW ON VRSC FOR 2008

1250cc Revolution V-Twin engine: Originally designed for the CVO Screamin’ Eagle V-Rod, bore is increased to 105 mm from 100 mm, boosting displacement from 1130 cc to 1250 cc. This engine is tuned to produce up to 125 hp at 8250 rpm and up to 85 ft-lbs. of torque at 7000. The 60-degree Revolution V-Twin engine is liquid-cooled and features Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI), dual overhead cams, four-valve heads, and a five-speed transmission. The engine is rubber-mounted in hydroformed steel perimeter frame. A steel shell covers the large-volume airbox. A 5-gallon fuel tank is located below the seat on all VRSC models.

Slipper Clutch: All 2008 VRSC models have a new clutch with race-bred “slipper” action that helps mitigate drivetrain strain and rear-wheel lock-up during downshifting. Integral with the new clutch design is an assist feature that reduces clutch-lever effort by more than 20 percent.

Optional ABS: For the first time, each VRSC model is available with optional, factory-installed Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS). Designed to work in conjunction with the high-performance Brembo brakes on all VRSC models, this is the most advanced braking system offered on any power cruiser. ABS is designed to help the rider maintain control during emergency stopping situations, especially those that happen in less than ideal conditions. The components of the Harley-Davidson ABS have been designed and packaged to be virtually invisible, preserving the clean custom styling of the area around the wheels. Unlike many motorcycle ABS, Harley-Davidson ABS is a manual, independent system, meaning the rider maintains full, independent control of how much of each brake is applied.

Base MSRP $16,695
